The NAMI Florida Tribute Scrapbook celebrates the career of Joyce Burland, Ph.D., who retired but left her indelible and hope-inspiring mark as NAMI’s National Director of the Education, Training, and Peer Support Center. Burland’s work has changed lives and imbued in people living with serious mental illness and their families the idea that recovery and living a productive, happy life is possible . A clinical psychologist who has been with NAMI since 2000, Burland is recognized as a leader in the field of peer education for people living directly with mental illness, their families and caregivers, and service providers.
Burland is the author of two NAMI signature programs: One, the NAMI Family-to-Family Education curriculum, a peer education program for families, and two, the NAMI Provider Education Program, a course that trains public agency line staff in skills fostering family-consumer-provider collaboration. She also contributed to the development of Parents and Teachers as Allies.
In this scrapbook created by NAMI Pasco’s own Gloria Strother, President of the NAMI Pasco Board of Directors and a tireless advocate for people living with brain disorders, NAMI Pasco members and affiliates acknowledge their love, gratitude, and respect for Joyce Burland’s leadership and the important, life-changing work she spearheaded throughout the course of her NAMI career, and the countless lives she has helped to improve.
