Psychiatric Examinations, Mental Health Checks, and Employment: Let’s Normalize Mental Health Screenings!
Aviation safety and mental illness have entered our public dialogue given the recent and tragic Lufthansa plane crash and pilot Andreas Lubitz. The conversation includes topics such as “workups” for psychological assessments, diagnostic tools, employment and “self-reporting” for psychiatric conditions, and mental health checks for pilots.
NBC’s “Meet the Press” on March 29, 2015 covers these topics in the first 15 minutes of the show, including commentary from Patrick Kennedy, advocate for mental health and addiction reforms.
